Changing your password

To change your password: You may change your password from the prompt screen that appears when you are on campus and your password has expired.  You may also change it by going to http://password.drew.edu

If you are not on campus when you change your password, you can use your new password to log in to web-based, Drew applications like Webmail.  However, until you come to campus and log in, you will have to use your old password to log into your computer.  Once you've come to campus, the authentication servers will be able to communicate directly with your Drew laptop and your new password will be set to allow you to log on to your computer.

Distance Learning students should get help from the CNS Helpdesk  for resetting passwords.

When you change your password from the web, you will see a page similar to this:

                          passwordloginscreen

  • Enter your username in the uLogin ID field and your Password below that, then click passwordloginbutton
    • (This is the same user name and password you use to access your email).
  • After you have logged in, you will be brought to a web site similar to this:

                            passwordhomepage

  • You should then click on the passworduloginbutton button
  • Clicking this button will bring you to a page similar to this:

    • Enter your new uLogin password in the second and third boxes on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I go for help with my password?

Students, faculty and staff who cannot get in to their account can go to the CNS Help Desk in the basement of Brothers College with a Drew ID and have their password reset.

What will my uLogin ID and password allow me to access?

Drew now uses the same account name and password for logging onto the network, email and all other network services except for modules with AIMS.

When should I Change my Password?

Your password is good for 180 days, then it expires. One week before your password expires, you will start receiving email notifications in your GroupWise mailbox, and pop up boxes when you login, reminding you to change your password. The email will contain a link to change your password. The pop up dialog boxes have "Change Password" button.

After your password expires, you get 12 grace logins.  You may change your password at any time before your grace logins expire by going to http://password.drew.edu or following the link in the email message warning you of the impending expiration of your password.

Many mobile devices - like smartphones - will save your passwords in a cache and use them automatically when you log in.  When this happens, the device uses your grace logins after your password expires without your knowledge.  Once your grace logins expire, you will need to take your student ID to the CNS Helpdesk to have your password reset.

You do not have to wait for your password  to expire before changing it. We suggest you change your password any time you feel as though it may have been compromised--such as when it has been written down, or given to another person, or if for any reason you think someone else might know your password.

Rules to follow When changing my password

When you change your password, choose one that is at least 8 characters long. For more tips on passwords, visit the Password Safety page.

New passwords must be unique to the user. The same exact combination of letters and numbers in the same sequence cannot be reused as your network password.

What if my password expires?

We strongly recommend you change your password as soon as possible after you receive the email, because if your password expires and you begin using grace logins, these can be used without warning when you enter Firefox, use other Web services on campus, or access your account from a mobile device that caches your password. If you use all of your grace logins before you change your password, you will not be able to log in to the network and will have to get assistance from the Help Desk.

Should your password expire, you will need to go to the CNS Help Desk (located in the basement of Brothers College ) to have your password reset.

You will need to present your Drew ID. Please remember that passwords cannot be reset over the phone, and you cannot have someone go and do it for you. You must go in person, and show valid identification.
