The easiest way to access your Drew email off campus is by using WebAccess. WebAccess is a web-based client to GroupWise. You can get there by going to:

Clicking on these links will redirect you to the standard uLogin screen. Enter your uLogin and password to continue.

WebAccess looks and feels much like the GroupWise client. You'll have access to all your folders, address books and calendar items. For information on how to use WebAccess, click here.

Installing GroupWise on your home computer or Non-Drew laptop

For individuals who are using non-Drew computers, installing the full GroupWise client on a computer at home may be necessary. To install GroupWise at home using the internet, please go to the step-by-step directions located here.

      Using Caching Mode

Cached Mode in GroupWise offers a more consistent experience for end users who use laptops, who travel or who work from home.

In Cached Mode, GroupWise initially makes a copy of your mailbox on your local computer. When you have an on-campus or off-campus internet connection, GroupWise will automatically synchronize your computer with the GroupWise server. When you disconnect from the network, you can continue to read mail, view your calendar and compose mail. Any mail you send will be queued on your computer, and sent when you reconnect.

Cached mode allows you to work consistently online (connected) or offline (disconnected). It is a logical choice for users with laptops.

To enable Cached Mode, make sure you are on campus and logged in. In GroupWise, use the File menu. Click File | Mode | Cached.

The first time you access this, you’ll be prompted for the cached location. Accept the default (on the c:\ drive) and click OK. Enter your password. Choose the option for your Online password and your cached mailbox password to be the same.

When prompted to restart GroupWise, choose Yes.

When GroupWise restarts, enter your password. Continue to work as normal. One small difference you’ll notice is the status indicator in the upper left hand corner (above the folder list) now states Caching as opposed to Online.

The next time you start GroupWise, if you are connected to the network, you’ll get a dialog box asking if you want to process items from the last session. Choose OK; you may seen an Updating Mailbox dialog box.

Password changes with GroupWise Caching mode

Drew users are required to change their uLogin passwords every 180 days. If you followed the procedure above to setup Caching mode, your cached mailbox password the same as your online mailbox. However, when you change your network password, the cached copy of your mailbox isn't "aware" of that change.

After changing your uLogin password, you will find that you can't get into your caching mailbox with the new password. It will expect the old password to unlock the cached mailbox.

When prompted, enter your "old" password to get into your cached mailbox.

Next GroupWise will try and synchronize your cached mailbox with the online mailbox. It will discover that it doesn't have the right password for the online mailbox and will pop up a dialog telling you that the online mailbox password has changed.

Enter your "new" password, and select the option for your Online and cached mailbox passwords to be the same.
