On December 6 2007, some Drew Facutly and Staff gathered in BC1 for a demonstration of MOODLE, a Learning Management System (LMS) that was piloted this fall. As you may know by now, Drew has been searching for a new LMS to replace Blackboard. We have been looking at a handful of systems and narrowed down our search to two systems, ANGEL (an enterprise system) and Moodle (an Open Source system).
The Moodle Open House featured demonstrations by two faculty members who used participated in the Fall 2007 Pilot of Moodle, a demonstration of the Moodle Interface and how to set up a course.
There was also a demonstration of how ePortfolios can be set up using Moodle. Drew's Computing and Network Services (CNS) explained the enhancements that are possible in Moodle due to its Open Source license, in addition to various customizations and integration with our K: Drive and other network drives. All these features allow us to customize Moodle to suit Drew's learning management needs.
Sample courses were made available on our Moodle Pilot server (https://moodle.drew.edu) for faculty and staff to test Moodle and familiarize themselves with the interface. You may request a sample course and/or walk-through/demonstration of Moodle at any time, by contacting the FacLab at x3942, or Gamin Bartle (x3160, gbartle@drew.edu) or Sarah Ashley (x3244, sashley1@drew.edu).
