F-Prot RealTime Protector
A sign of having a virus on your computer is being issued a warning from F-Prot RealTime Protector.
All Drew-issued computers come with F-Prot Antivirus software. This software comes with a RealTime Protector, which is a program that runs in the background while you are on your computer. RealTime Protector scans the files currently in use on your system. If it detects an infection, it will alert you with a window that looks like this:

This means that F-Prot suspects that certain files on your computer are infected with a virus.
Using F-Prot OnDemand Scanner to remove Viruses
One way to disinfect your computer is to run F-Prot's OnDemand Scanner. Even if you don't have warning signs it is a good idea to run the OnDemand Scanner regularly, especially after downloading files. OnDemand Scanner will scan your entire computer (or specific files if you wish) in order to locate and remove any viruses.
To run the scanner, open up the Start menu and select All Programs | F-Prot Antivirus | OnDemand Scanner. This should open up a window that looks something like this:

F-Prot OnDemand Scanner Main Screen
Before scanning, it's a good idea to update F-Prot using the Update button. In the Update window that ap
pears, choose LAN and click Update.
Once you have run the updater, you are ready to scan. Click the OnDemand Scanner button. In the tasks window, you will see a green checkmark next to the phrase hard drives. This means the scanner will scan all files stored on the hard drive of your computer. Press the Scan N ow button to proceed.
F-Prot will now begin scanning your hard drive. As the scanner finds infected objects and/or files associated with viruses, it will list them in the bottom area of the window and prompt you to decide what action to take. If the prompt says F-Prot has found an infected file, choose Disinfect . This will remove the virus code from the selected file. If the prompt says F-Prot has found a suspicious file, choose Delete. This is an unnecessary file that is being recognized by F-Prot as a virus.
Once the scan is complete and all files have been disinfected, the virusshould be removed.
Note: If your computer exhibits any of the warning sings related to viruses, or if RealTime Protector has given you a warning message, we recommend that you call the CNS Helpdesk at extension 3205 even before you disinfect your computer. CNS should be aware of any viruses on campus and can give you help in removing the virus and/or fixing the errors, especially if you are unsure of what to do.
