1. Hey! Where did the menus go?
Office 2007 has replaced most of the menu system with a tabbed element called the Ribbon.
2. I want to print - where did the print button go?
In the upper left corner of your screen, you'll see two areas: a colorful button, and a small toolbar next to it. The colorful button is called the Office button. On the Office button, you'll find most of the commands that used to be located on the File menu in earlier versions of the software - such as Save, Open, New, and Print.
In addition to printing by using the Office button, you can also use the small toolbar next to it, called the Quick Access toolbar. You can also continue to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+P.

On the Office button menu, get to know the Save As... command well.
3. I sent my paper to my prof. Really, I did. But my prof can't open my paper. Help!
Word/Excel/PowerPoint 2007 use a new file type (the way the file is saved has changed). This means older software can't recognize or open the new files. If your professor is working on campus on a Drew computer, he/she will be able to open your file. But if your professor is working at home, he/she may not have Office 2007, or have installed the file converters necessary to view your file. If this is the case, use the Save As.. command on the Office button menu to save the file in an Office 97-2003 compatible format.
4. I'm working on my paper on my mom's/dad's/grandma's/friend's/dog's computer off campus. I know I saved my paper in my F:\ drive, but when I try to open the paper using DocXchanger, I can't open it up! And it's due tomorrow!
See question 3. Non-Drew computers may not have either Office 2007 or the file converters which allow you to open the newer files in older software. If Office 2007 is not available, you may wish to download and install the file converters, which will allow you to open a Word 2007 file in Word 2003 (for example). The file converters are available from the Microsoft website.
5. I used the Insert Citation command under reference in Word 2007, but when I open the paper on my home computer I can't edit the bibliography page.
The Insert Citation command is only accessible when the Word document is opened using Office 2007. This command is not found on older versions of Office. When you saved the document a screen should have pop up relaying this information to you.

My student sent me an email with a Word 2007 document attached. How can I view it?
When you get an Office 2007 file in your GroupWise email (*.pptx or *.docx, for example), right-click the file and choose to Save As. GroupWise is unable to directly open and view Office 2007 files, unless you have Office 2007 installed on that computer. If you use GroupWise WebAccess (using a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer), you will also need to choose the Save As option to work with the attachment.
A student sent me an email with a Word 2007 document attached. I can open the document when I'm in the office; but when I go home, I can't open the attachment.
In order to view Office 2007 files on a computer without Office 2007, the file converters need to be installed. CNS will install the file converters on all Drew University desktop computers in early summer, 2007. However, you may not have the file converters installed on your home computer. To install the file converters on your home computer, please visit the Microsoft website.
I'm working with a colleague at another university. Can I send her a PowerPoint 2007 or Word 2007 file?
During this transitional period, you may wish to ensure documents you exchange with professionals at other institutions can use and view your files. When using Office 2007, you can save files in several different formats, including the Office 2003 format, which may allow for greater compatibility with other users in different organizations and countries. To use the Save As feature in Office 2007 applications, click the Office button (colorful button in the upper left corner) and choose Save As... From the Save As option, choose the 97-2003 format. For additional format options, please contact the Faculty Lab/Staff Lab in BC (973-408-3942).
Office 2007 is not on the classroom computer. How can I see my .docx and .pptx files using the classroom computers in the Technology Enhanced Classroms?
The classroom computers in Technology Enhanced Classrooms (Technology Enhanced Classroms) have the file format converters already installed on them. Although Office 2007 is not installed on the classroom computers, you'll still be able to open and view Office 2007 files using the classroom computers.
