Student Profiles

Alison Bayersdorfer
AmeriCorps in Minnesota
A Bayers

"Drew puts a high value on experiential education. Internships are a way to apply what you have learned in the classroom to work in the real world. My internship as an AmeriCorps literacy volunteer gave me practical training and first-hand insight into how my academic skills could help me make a difference."

Andrew Keith
Prudential
A Kieth

"I actually feel like a valued member of Prudential because my supervisors take an interest in my development and work habits."

"Last year, when I worked in the Financial Management and Performance Measures group, I was able to use some of the information I learned from my economics courses.

And since my major is computer science and my minor is economics, I was able to tap into my computer knowledge this summer and apply it to intranet projects I was working on."

Becky Taylor
Philadelphia Zoo
B Taylor

"I chose to take an internship at the Philadelphia Zoo this past summer to receive experience in a field related to veterinary medicine. Drew's Academic Internship Office was very accessible and helpful, and I had a wonderful experience performing in programs at the zoo which introduced children to our animals."

Elizabeth Henderson
Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory
E Henderson

"I know now that I definitely want to work with dolphins. I came here to be sure this is what I really want to do with the rest of my life. Now I am sure that it is."

Fran Lucivero
PepperCom
F Lucivero

"Last summer I did an internship at PepperCom, a PR agency in Manhattan whose managing partner is a Drew alum. It was a wonderful experience. PepperCom taught me many things, but most important was that establishing business relationships early on is the key to post-graduation career success. During my internship I was offered a full-time job. Imagine the excitement of having job security before the start of my senior year."

John Tenaglia
Metropolitan Corporate Council
J Tengalia

"Participating in an internship should be a requirement for all Drew students. Interning was a valuable experience because it afforded me the opportunity to learn outside the classroom and network in an area I was interested in."

Kristine Spano
The Metropolitan Museum of Art

"When I applied to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for an internship position I never expected that I would be assisting the curators in removing a mask off the cast of a mummy that had been found 70 years ago and was thousands of years old."

"Learning about museum work and its ties to archeology gave me a glimpse into the career of a curator. Yet time spent in this department would have been futile if I had not spoken to the doctors about their individual educational and professional paths. As an undergraduate on the verge of graduation, the decision of attending graduate school or entering the work force is imminent. Therefore, discussions and interviews with those that I had worked among gave me a first-hand account of the time and energy that one must dedicate to the profession."

"The conversations with the curators, talking about their education and excavation experiences, filing photographs of beautiful statuettes, and listening to the curators handle phone calls from the Discovery Channel or the ambassador from Egypt, these are the moments and tasks from which I learned so much about Egyptology, museology, and archeology. I am most grateful to the staff of the department for helping me learn more about myself and for giving me the experience of a lifetime."

Nadine Loiseau and Johanna Merejo
Prudential Financial

"Working at Prudential Financial has taught me what the business world is really about. This internship went beyond books and lectures. It put me in the middle of the action, exactly where I want to be when I graduate. I think I have an edge against many of the graduates that are going to come in in the class of 2003 - everybody is going to be competing for jobs and...employers are going to know that I was trained, that I have experience and that I was trained in leadership development."

Sarah Smith
Whitney Museum
Sarah Smith

"My experience at the Whitney Museum was one of my best experiences at Drew. I learned so many things about American art, the operations and teamwork required in running a successful museum, and about the New York "art world" in general. My spring internship led me to intern there in the summer and proved to be an invaluable experience."

Shannon Gould
Alzheimer's Association, Northern NJ
S Gould

"It's comforting when you call a potential internship and the corporate contact comments on how many great interns have come from Drew."
