Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Business Office do?

What else does the Business Office do besides bill me?

  • administer the meal plans
  • processes student accident/sickness insurance premiums

Why have I received a bill?

  • notification of a monthly statement of charges is electronically sent to the student's Drew University issued email address on the 15th of each month if there is a balance due or a credit on the account.  The student may access these bills only by logging into Campus Web.
  • billing packets for the fall and spring semesters are mailed to the student's permanent address in July and November respectively. Please note that if a student DOES NOT register for the upcoming semester he/she will NOT RECEIVE A BILLING PACKET.  If you do not receive a billing packet by July 20 or December 10 please contact the Business Office for more information.

What does the 'cr' in the total column of the bill mean?

  • the 'cr' denotes a credit balance.
  • this credit could be the result of a payment plan overage, financial aid awards, or an over payment, for example. To find out exactly where yours generates from, contact us at 973/408-3114 or via email.

If I take a leave of absence or withdraw from Drew in the middle of the semester do I get a refund?

Does the Business Office handle my financial aid?

  • yes, the Business Office does process the receipt of your financial aid, but specific questions you have about your aid and awards should be addressed first to the Financial Aid Office. The Financial Aid Office is located just upstairs from the Business Office.

Why doesn't the Federal Stafford Loan or Federal PLUS/ SLS check credited on my statement of charges equal the amount shown on my financial aid award letter?

  • the federal government allows the lending institution to deduct a 3% fee for loan processing work. That means the actual amount of the disbursement received by Drew is always slightly less then what was reported to you on your financial aid award letter. Click here for more information regarding the receipt of your loans.

What if I haven't received my loan approval by the first day of classes?

  • if your loan approval notice has not been received by the Business Office by the first day of classes, you must make arrangements with the Office of Financial Assistance to borrow an interim loan. The terms of this loan are explained further at the time of application through the Office of Financial Assistance.
  • interim loan arrangements must be made before the start of classes and/ or before you move into a University-owned residence. If you are a minor, a parent or guardian must cosign the loan. Direct your questions on this process to the Office of Financial Assistance.

When can I receive a refund based on the credit on my account?

  • refunds are issued based on credits actually deposited in your student account. No refunds are given based on pending financial aid or active payment plans such as Key or the Drew 4 month plan. If your Stafford Loan or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is deposited in your account electronically, you are notified in writing that the loan has been credited to your account the day after the actual deposit. If you have a credit, you may request a refund. Refund requests will not be processed until one week after the add/ drop period has ended.
  • For any exceptions please email requests to business@drew.edu **
  • For more information on requesting refund checks click here.

When will my financial aid be credited to my account?

  • when an award is approved/ received by the Office of Financial Assistance, the credit shows on your student account the next business day after your status is clear in the Office of Financial Assistance.

Why is my financial aid pending?

  • with the exception of Stafford, PLUS, and private loans, most financial aid is credited to student accounts during the first week of the enrollment period. Loan proceeds are credited when funds are received from lenders. The loan disbursement date is the first day of the enrollment period. Financial aid will remain pending after the first week of the enrollment period if additional forms are required to complete the financial aid file review process. In this case, financial aid will be credited as soon as the required forms have been reviewed and aid eligibility confirmed.

Why is my outside award shown as pending?

  • Financial Aid from external sources (i.e. church, conference, or other type of scholarship or loan) is not credited until payment is received by the Business Office.

Why doesn't Work Study/ Regular Employment appear on my statement of charges?

  • Federal Work-Study/ regular Employment earnings are never credited to your account; wages earned are paid directly to the student biweekly through the Payroll Department.

How do I pay my phone bill?

  • you will receive your monthly phone bills from an outside agency called Strategic Telecommunications Consulting (STC), which will not show on your Drew University bill. Payments should be sent to STC.
  • missed phone payments are charged to the individual student account

What happens if my tuition payment is late?

  • The University assesses a $500 late-payment charge for any unpaid balance remaining on your student account after August 5 for the fall semester and January 6 for the spring semester. You should direct your questions to the Business Office prior to the due dates to avoid any difficulties.
  • If your charges/credits change after your initial statement is printed DO NOT wait for an amended statement to address the balance on the account, contact the Business Office prior to the payment deadline.

**restrictions apply; subject to administrative approval
