Head Coach Lenny Armuth

Lenny Armuth has been at the helm of the men’s soccer program since 1994 and in that time has become the most successful coach in the history of the program.  With seven Conference Coach of the Year, two NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year and a NSCAA/Adidas National Coach of the Year awards to his name, Armuth has established himself as one of the elite coaches in the country.   His Ranger teams have captured eight conference titles including 2007’s inaugural Landmark Conference crown, further proving the quality of Armuth’s work.  No stranger to the NCAA Tournament, his teams have gone to the Big Dance seven times, including their first-ever NCAA Championship game appearance in 2003 where the Rangers finished second in the nation.

In addition to being a conference powerhouse, Armuth has guided the Rangers to five ECAC Tournaments, claiming the championship title in 1997 and reaching the final in 2007.  Drew has played in either the NCAA Tournament or the ECAC Tournament in every season since Armuth took over the reins in 1994.

Prior to Drew, Armuth was an assistant with the Rutgers University men’s team that reached the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and head coach of the Kean College women’s squad that was consistently ranked in the Top 10.

As a player, the Maplewood, NJ native was an All-American at Columbia High School in 1981 and a captain at the University of South Florida.  He played professionally and with the United States Maccabi teams which he later coached as well.  He lives in Westfield, N.J. with his wife Sarah Jane and two boys, Jeremy and Matthew.

Assistant Coach Paul Johnson

Paul JohnsonAfter a career as an elite amateur, Paul Johnson began his collegiate coaching career with the Rangers in 2008.  A member of the United States Men’s National Soccer teams from the U14 to U20 levels and a four year player at the University of Virginia, Johnson brings experience from the highest levels of American amateur soccer to the Drew coaching staff.

A Princeton, NJ native, Johnson joined the United States Men’s U14 National Team set up in 1997 and went on to captain the U15 and U16 National Teams.  He participated at the U17 FIFA World Championships in 1999 and was twice named a Parade High School All-American.  While a resident at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Johnson earned the prestigious Rafael Jordan Memorial Award as the Student Athlete of the Year.  He was a member of the 2003 and 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference champion Virginia Cavaliers and helped lead his team to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

“We are thrilled to have Paul on our staff,” said Head Coach Lenny Armuth.  “He is an outstanding player with some of the best experience an American collegiate player can have and he has the ability to become a great coach.”
