Vincent Masco, Head CoachGuiding the Rangers for the third decade is Vince Masco, the winningest baseball coach in Drew’s history. Masco immediately turned the program around with the team more than doubling its number of wins from the previous season and capturing the conference title. In 2006, Masco led the Rangers back to the MAC Freedom Playoffs for the fourth time and recorded his 338th career win.
Masco, who was selected the 1998 Coach of the Year by the New Jersey Baseball Coaches Association, was voted the 1999 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom League Coach of the Year after guiding the Rangers to their first Freedom League title. In addition, he has guided the Rangers to five ECAC playoffs and four MAC postseason appearances. His 165th career victory on April 17, 1996 elevated him to first on Drew all-time victory chart, while in 1998 he became the only Drew coach in any sport to ever record 200 career victories. Masco upped the ante in 2004 and cemented himself as a legend in college coaching. On April 9 the Rangers defeated Delaware Valley College 7-6 giving him his 300th career win, and a place not only in the Drew history books, but in the NCAA as he became one of the top 50 all-time winningest Division III coaches.
A 1971 graduate of Trenton State College, Masco has also served as Drew’s associate director of athletics for 16 years. He is on numerous committees including the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Selection committee, the MAC Baseball Sports Committee, serves as the chair of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Baseball Selection committee, and maintains a role on the ECAC Basketball committee after coaching the Drew basketball team from 1986-95.
Danny DeGeorge, a professional player in the Cleveland Indians organization and a four-time All-Ivy honoree while at Princeton, joins the Drew Rangers baseball coaching staff for the 2009-10 year. Having completed a highly successful career with the Tigers, the New Jersey native signed with the Indians, reaching Single-A in his first season. He will begin his collegiate coaching career under Head Coach Vincent Masco with the Rangers.
“Danny is a great player and a bright young man,” said Drew Head Coach Vincent Masco. “He has a terrific baseball mind and his experience as a professional and a high level collegiate player prove his quality on the field.”
A graduate of Delbarton School, DeGeorge was a first team all-state player as a senior in baseball and soccer. At Princeton, he earned a B.A. in economics while earning All-Ivy honors all four seasons. His senior season was his best as he led the Tigers with a .349 average as well as in hits (53), extra-base hits (16) and runs scored (26) while being named the team’s MVP. As a sophomore in 2007, he earned second team All-Ivy honors as a shortstop.
Following his Princeton career, DeGeorge signed with the Cleveland Indians and was assigned to the Single-A Lake County Captains and the Arizona League Indians.
