Costa Selected to Academic All-District Team

 _JOA1566Drew men’s soccer player Vincent Costa was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team.  A senior biochemistry major, Costa earned the prestigious honor as voted on by the regions Sports Information Directors through CoSIDA.  On the field, Costa is a midfielder and three year starter for the Rangers.

Swimming Prepped For 09-10 Season

120swmmingDrew swimming opens its 2009-10 campaign on Saturday when it hosts the Ramapo Roadrunners at 1 pm.  The Rangers are looking to build off a successful finish to the ’08-09 season that saw them set 64 personal bests at the Landmark Conference Championships, the women’s team win its most meets since 2001-02 and 84 new times entered into Drew’s All-Time Top 15 lists.  Head Coach Eric Scheingoltz and his Rangers will be looking for similar successes in the upcoming season.

Scranton Stuns Men's Soccer in 2OT

LC_Color_300dpi_Medium(1).jpgThe Scranton Royals stunned Drew men’s soccer as the visitors used two goals by Jeff Bochicchio to defeat the Rangers, 3-2, in the second overtime period of the Landmark Conference Semifinals.  Bochicchio equalized in the 83rd and then scored the Golden Goal in the 104th minute of play.  The Rangers had twice taken the lead though Marc Chiarello and Anthony Pisani, but uncharacteristically couldn’t hold the advantage.

Susqu Breaks Women's Soccer Hearts

LC_Color_300dpi_Medium(1).jpgA cruel ending to Drew women’s soccer season saw the Rangers defeated in a penalty kick shootout by the Susquehanna Crusaders, 4-3, following a 0-0 tie in regulation of the Landmark Conference semifinals.  The Rangers dominated the game, outshooting the Crusaders 19-3, but unable to find the winner in regulation they were victims of a save by Alyssa Kemmerer in the final penalty shot of the game.  The Rangers season ends at 7-8-4 while the Crusaders advance to face Catholic for the Landmark Conference Championship.

Hockey Falls in Landmark Semis

 Drew field hockey lost their Landmark Conference semifinal at Juniata, 4-1.  Facing the #18 Eagles, the Rangers went down 2-0 early in the game and gave up two more goals in the second half before Meghan Howlett pulled one back for the Rangers.  At 12-8, the Rangers are still eligible for further postseason play with the ECAC Tournament a possible destination.  Juniata (16-3), which got goals from four different players and two assists from Kim Amrod, advances to try and win its third straight Landmark Conference title against Susquehanna on Saturday.
