Drew University's Art Department is for students interested in the study of studio practice in a highly competitive, supportive and personalized arts education environment with a sound liberal arts foundation. The Art Department is committed to developing in each student the capacity for creative problem solving in making art. We ask students to progress through a series of studio projects, acknowledging a firm foundation in art history and contemporary art, and through critical thinking to achieve individual expression. We believe that contemporary expression in art requires a grounding not just in studio practice but also in the rigorous study of various image making traditions and cultures. We further think that it is important that students develop an understanding of the art world itself which is best explored through the offerings of New York City.

The Dorothy Young Center for the Arts is the home of Drew University's Art Department offering the Studio Art Major. The studio area boasts an outstanding full-time and adjunct faculty of practicing artists, dedicated to both their art practice and teaching excellence. Drew's exceptional faculty is teamed with a rare depth of facility: amazing studios, brilliant light, safety, technology, and space; highlight areas for painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, 2d design, sculpture and ceramics with facilities for digital art located in Brothers College. The building also affords space for an ample senior studio, which allows for the distillation of community within an artist's studio context giving foundation to a continued arts practice in a professional environment.
