When & Where: November 19 2009, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m., Mead Hall - Cost: $25
All alumni and students of the Graduate School are invited to this special dinner to gather, talk and relish the kinds of exchanges we begin during class breaks but never have enough time to continue.
Topic: Could America’s Image Abroad be Fixed? Since 9/11, many in the Arab and Muslim World have read President Bush’s “global war on terrism” to be a code phrase to mean a war on Islam and Muslims, compounding America’s negative image. This is evidenced by all the Gallup and Pew polls taken in the eight post 9/11 years. Such negativism could and should be countered by a visible change in the language of discourse and the conduct of both official and popular diplomacy. Americans have offered much and can still offer more that is highly appreciated.
