Drew field hockey lost their
Landmark Conference semifinal at Juniata, 4-1.
Facing the #18 Eagles, the Rangers went down 2-0 early in the game and
gave up two more goals in the second half before Meghan Howlett pulled one back
for the Rangers. At 12-8, the Rangers
are still eligible for further postseason play with the ECAC Tournament a
possible destination. Juniata (16-3),
which got goals from four different players and two assists from Kim Amrod,
advances to try and win its third straight Landmark Conference title against
Susquehanna on Saturday.
Junior Sam Smith scored first
on an unassisted goal, 3:28 into the match. After a scramble in the circle,
Smith gathered a loose ball and beat the goalie from eight yards out to score
her second goal of the season.
Sophomore Caitlyn Bowman made it 2-0 when she tapped home a pass from sophomore
Kim Amrod with 20:28 showing on the scoreboard.
Juniata put the game away in the second half.
Caroline Phillips scored 6:09 into the second half to put the Eagles up
3-0. Phillips drove home a corner from
the top of the circle as Amrod picked up her second assist of the game.
Sophomore Suzi Lindquist finished the scoring for the Eagles at the 53:50 mark.
She perfectly placed a penalty stroke that beat Ranger keeper Stef Rutkowski high
above her pad side.
Drew got on the board in the 62nd minute as Meghan Howlett beat junior
goalkeeper Moira Nugent from the penalty spot.
Lauren Fasano started in goal for the Rangers, allowing two goals and recording
three saves. Rutkowski played the entire second half, stopping five shots and
giving up two goals as well. The Eagles
outshot Drew, 23-7, while also winning the penalty corner battle, 17-8.
The loss leaves the Rangers
at 12-8 on the season, but on the short end of each of its final four Landmark
Conference matches of the season.
