All student-athletes are required to have personal health insurance. This insurance may be through a parent’s plan or purchased through Student Health Services. As stated in the Consent Form For Drew Athletes, intercollegiate sports injuries are now covered by the Drew Student Insurance Plan up to $1,000. If an intercollegiate athlete is also covered under a parent’s plan, the parent plan pays first and the student plan pays second. When costs exceed $1,000, the Drew Athletic Insurance Policy (which is a different policy than the basic student insurance plan and is paid for by Drew) will pay second after the parent plan up to the next $75,000, or first when the student insurance plan is the student’s only insurance. In the unlikely event of an extreme injury, the NCAA catastrophic insurance will cover costs that exceed $75,000.
Any medical bills not covered by the parent’s plan (primary) will be sent to Consolidated Health Plan (Claim Form). Claims submitted to CHP need to include, but are not limited to: 1) an explanation of benefits (EOB), 2) itemized bill and 3) a copy of the Drew Sports Medicine injury report.
Student Athletes/ Parents, please, mail claims to Chris Ryan for approval and proper submission of the claim to CHP for processing.
