What If It Rains?
We’ve been carefully monitoring the weather forecast for Commencement weekend. Rain is predicted to begin Friday evening and Saturday’s forecast calls for a 90 percent chance of rain, coupled with unseasonably low temperatures and wind. For the safety and comfort of our community members and the many guests we will welcome to campus, our 2017 Commencement ceremony will be held in Simon Forum.
Though the ceremony will be indoors, this change of venue does not affect:
This change does affect parking for all guests, which will be offsite at Giralda Farms, located 1/4 mile west of the Drew University campus.
If assistance is needed at any time, please call Drew’s service response desk at 973-408-3510.
Please ask your guests to plan appropriately.
On Commencement day, traffic on N.J. Route 124 through Madison, Morristown and Chatham will be heavy, especially in inclement weather. Please consider carpooling to reduce traffic congestion.
If you or your guests have already arranged for special needs seating and parking, those are still reserved for you.
No. Our seating capacity is approximately 3,000 seats for both indoor and outdoor venues, so your family and friends will not need tickets for Commencement. Out of consideration for others, please use discretion in the number of guests you invite to ensure that others may share in the celebration. Seating in either location will be open at 9 a.m. and will be on a first come, first served basis.
If you have already arranged for special needs seating and parking with Public Safety, those are still reserved for you. Also, the live video of the ceremony will be streamed to various locations around campus, some with overflow seating, as well on the Commencement homepage.
The reception locations have been planned for indoor locations regardless of weather, so these celebrations will not be impacted by inclement weather. You can find those locations listed here.
All robing sites, regardless of the ceremony location, are in the Simon Forum and can be found here.
A live video of the ceremony will be available, rain or shine, and can be viewed from anywhere. We will also stream the ceremony to screens in LC 28 and LC 30 in the Library, as well as the lounge areas of the Ehinger Center and the Commons (standing room only), for friends and family that are on-campus but not at the ceremony itself.
Thank you very much for your cooperation and congratulations to the Class of 2017!
