Notice to Graduating Students

Commencement Procession

Are you planning to graduate in May 2009? Whether or not you plan to graduate in May 2009, please complete the online “Application for Graduation” (via the forms section of Campus Web) no later than Monday, January 26, 2009. If you have a problem with the online application, please contact the Registrar's office at (973) 408-3025 for assistance. The application guarantees that a diploma is ordered for you and that your name appears correctly in the commencement program.

Incomplete/Not Reported Grades

Unless otherwise approved, any courses with incomplete (I), not reported (NR) or (Z) grades that you intend to use to satisfy requirements for May 2009 must have all outstanding work submitted to instructors and a passing grade forwarded to the Registrar’s Office by February 4, 2009. If you submit outstanding work after this date, our office cannot guarantee that your name will be included on the May 2009 Commencement List.

Regalia

Information on renting academic attire. The deadline for purchase is March 13, 2009; the deadline for rental is April 10, 2009. Order your academic attire through the university bookstore. If you have any questions concerning the purchase or rental of academic attire, please call the University Bookstore directly at (973) 408-3881. Note that you may also opt to buy your attire, in which case please refer to this form.

Diplomas

Diplomas are not given out during the commencement ceremony. If your Business Office account is clear, you will receive your diploma through the mail in approximately two to four weeks from the date of the commencement ceremony. As a result, please indicate your diploma mailing address on your graduation application.

Late Fee

There is a Twenty-Five Dollar ($25.00) LATE CHARGE for graduation applications filed after the January 26th deadline.

Announcements

Ten announcements are provided without charge for each candidate. You may have additional announcements at $.50 each. Please indicate in the space provided on the graduation application how many additional graduation announcements you need. These announcements do not include personal name cards and are not to be confused with announcements you may purchase from the bookstore.

Commencement

Students receiving degrees are expected to participate in the commencement ceremonies wearing appropriate academic dress (cap, gown, and hood). A candidate unable to participate in the ceremonies must submit to his/her academic dean a written request to be excused and awarded the degree in absentia.

Bills

Your account must be cleared with the business office and the financial assistance office before you receive your diploma.
