Orientation: Welcome Class of 2013 and Transfer Students

The mission of Orientation in the College of Liberal Arts is to assist the transition of new first-year and transfer undergraduate students to Drew University by offering an intentional and shared experience for new students and their families. The Orientation Committee, under the advisement of the Office of Student Activities and in collaboration with campus departments, facilitates the transition to academic and social life at Drew University by promoting a greater understanding of the campus, the culture, traditions, and expectations in which the university community thrives.

What can I expect from Orientation?

For new students arriving on campus in the fall, orientation in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) is a three-day event designed to assist with the transition to Drew University for new first year and transfer students. For the Class of 2013 and transfers entering in the fall of 2009, orientation runs from August 26-30, 2009. Parent and Family orientation takes place on the first day of new student orientation.

For new students, orientation is a time to engage with the Drew community as a new member. Connections begin to form with classmates, other Drew students, faculty, staff and the campus as a whole. The activities planned during orientation help to relieve common anxieties many students have about starting college or attending a new campus.

The first day of orientation includes the check-in process. Resident and commuter students both need to complete this process. All new students must be "cleared" to check-in on August 26, 2009. Once checked-in, all new students will have their ID pictures taken. Resident students will be given information regarding their residence halls and where to unpack vehicles.

The afternoon of the first day will include orientation sessions for students, parents and families. Some of these sessions will run concurrently, nevertheless, there will be opportunities to say farewell before the day concludes late in the afternoon. Activities will occur both inside and outside (weather permitting), so please dress accordingly. Please note that dress is casual.
