RU Ready is a civic engagement initiative created by the Rutgers University Eagleton Institute for Politics’ Center for Youth Political Participation. At Drew, RU Ready students explore civic engagement education, prepare engaging workshops, and administer interactive sessions on civic participation to high school students. RU Ready is a political learning experience for both the college students who create and deliver the workshops as well as the high school students participating. For more information, contact Professor Pat McGuinn at pmcguinn@drew.edu.
The Eagleton Institute of Politics’ Center for Youth Political Participation (CYPP) at Rutgers—New Brunswick announced the national expansion of its RU Ready civic engagement initiative. The launch begins with new RU Ready programs at Drew University in New Jersey and the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life at the University of Texas at Austin.
RU Ready helps local high school students develop the political knowledge and communication skills needed to address public problems in their communities. Drew students will serve as peer educators to deliver RU Ready civic education programs in nearby high schools. Patrick McGuinn, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science and Education at Drew University will be leading the RU Ready Drew initiative. Professor MGuinn notes that “Drew prides itself on being a civically-engaged university and looks forward to working with the RU Ready program to help educate and inspire area high school students to think more deeply about politics and government and to encourage their active participation and leadership.”
RU Ready Drew joins on-going efforts to strengthen participation in democratic processes across the university, including the Drew Student Voter Project, the ALL IN Democracy Challenge Civic Action Plan, and the New Jersey Secretary of State’s Ballot Bowl competition.
