The University Writing Center (UWC) is part of the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE). It is located in the Vivian A. Bull Academic Commons on the first floor of the University Library (Room 124).

The mission of the UWC is to encourage inquiry about writing across the curriculum and assists clients (i.e., students, faculty, and staff), in any stage of the writing process through individual consultation, including brainstorming a topic, structuring an essay, or revising. We strive to create an academic community of independent writers who are able to recognize strategies in order to improve their writing.
The UWC serves as a discourse community centered on conversation. Both the client and the writing specialist will be asking and answering questions, reading the paper together, and engaging in a dialogue about what works and what does not. By looking for solutions and strategies together, the client maintains ownership of the paper and learns from this process of problem solving.
