The Korn Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition of the “Mystic Mavericks” sculptures by Don Porcaro, which will be on view from February 5 through March 5, 2010.  The Gallery is located in the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts at Drew University and is open Tuesday through Friday from 12:30-4:00 PM and by appointment.

Don Porcaro’s “Mystic Mavericks” explore the whimsical possibilities embodied in ideas of animation and contemporary cultures. From the very strange black humor of Bosch to the scary and oddly funny world of Guston, to the fantastical shape shifting of Japanese anime, these sculptures are anything but ironic. Porcaro explains that they are based on our ability to experience wonder, and to stand at the cusp of what he refers to as the monster and the child.

Don Porcaro received an MFA in Sculpture from Columbia University. He lives in NYC and teaches at Parsons, The New School for Design. Mr. Porcaro received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the NY State Council on the Arts and is represented by the Kouros Gallery in NYC.
