Athletic Hall of Fame, 2013
Dean Rosow is the most prolific scorer in the history of the men’s soccer program at Drew. His incredible numbers have stood the test of time, holding three school records for more than 40 years of soccer in Madison. He scored 78 goals and recorded 42 assists in just three seasons as a member of the Drew soccer team. His 198 career points are nearly 50 points better than any other soccer player at Drew.
His body of work as a sophomore was the most dominant that the country had ever seen in college soccer. He led the nation with 36 goals and was credited with 25 assists. With official NCAA records beginning the following season, he would hold the national record in both goals and points per game to this day. He was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Most Valuable Player in 1973 to go along with MAC All-Star and NJSCA All-State honors.
In his three years at Drew the Rangers posted a 33-8-6 records and won two MAC College Division Championships.
Following his collegiate career he was invited by the USA Olympic Soccer Coach to try out for the 1976 USA Olympic Soccer Team. He was chosen and played with his fellow team members for two years. In 1974 the team defeated Bermuda in the first round of qualifying matches but fell to Mexico in the next round eliminating them from the 1976 Olympic Games.
In 1975, Dean played with the same Olympic Team and competed in the Pan American Games in Mexico City. During that period, he also played on a professional soccer team, the Connecticut Yankees in the American Soccer League. To keep his amateur status, Rosow played for only $50 per game while playing with the Yankees. In those days professionals were not allowed to compete on the Olympic Team if you were a professional player.
In 1977, he went on to play for the United States Maccabiah Soccer team and competed in Israel that same year. In the late 1970’s he played for the Hartford Crusaders, a semi-professional football team in Hartford, CT as the field goal kicker.
He founded Progressive Specialty Glass Company, Inc. in 1977 and the company continues to provide logoed drink ware to restaurants, bars, hotels, casinos and cruise ships, etc. around the world. He found that the same keen focus, passion and dedication that he had given to the game of soccer, was also a recipe for success in the business world.
Rosow presently lives in Miami Beach, Florida where he shares his life with his girlfriend Sarah. They enjoy traveling and Dean continues to be very active in his company.
Dean would like to thank the Hall of Fame Selection Committee for honoring him. He would also like to share a most special thank you to all his talented teammates with whom he had the privilege of playing alongside and to Coach John Reeves for his outstanding leadership. Dean has always felt that soccer is a beautiful game that he was fortunate to experience. He is humbled and honored to be a part of Drew University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
