In 1885, Henry T1885 and Ella Appenzeller, embarked on a mission to introduce Protestant Christianity to Korea. More than a century later, the Korean Methodist Church is one of the major Protestant denominations of Korea, and missionaries from Korea are working around the globe. The 2015 Tipple-Vosburgh lecture series celebrates the 130th anniversary of the Appenzellers’ mission to Korea by bringing experts in the history of the 19th-century Christian missionary movement together with scholars of global Christianities and those presently engaged in missionary work to dialogue about the impact of the past on the present and future of Christian mission.
