The M.F.A. in Poetry and Poetry in Translation had its third residency this January. Our community of students and faculty is growing and our program is flourishing. Over ten days we met together in workshops and lectures, and most nights we had poetry readings open to the public featuring our distinguished faculty as well as two guests: the poet Cornelius Eady, and the poet/translator Pablo Medina.

In the past few months two of our faculty have received important awards. Last fall Jean Valentine, our distinguished poet in residence, received the Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets which is a life-time achievement award for mastery in the art of poetry. And just recently Alicia Ostriker received the National Jewish Book Award in Poetry for her new collection The Book of Seventy. We are proud that they are part of our program here at Drew and we congratulate them!
