Breadth (20 credits)

  • 4 credits required in each category, BNS, BSS, BH, BA, and BI (May be taken as one 4 credit course or two 2 credit courses)
  • Courses must be chosen from at least four different departments/programs
  • No single course may be used to fill two breadth categories
  • A breadth course may be used to fulfill one other Gen Ed requirement
  • Breadth courses may be counted toward requirements for the major/minor

Quantitative Literacy (8 credits)

  • The two courses may come from the same department
  • AP scores of 4 or 5 may be used to fill the quantitative requirement

Diversity (8 credits)

  • 4 credits required in each category, DUS and DIT
  • One course may not fulfill both categories
  • 2 credit courses may be used toward the total, but 4 credits must be accrued in each area

Foreign Language (0-12 credits)

  • Three semesters of instruction or equivalent proficiency required
  • AP scores of 4 or 5 meet the proficiency requirement
  • Students who place at the 100-level on the placement exam meet the proficiency requirement

Writing Intensive (8 credits)

  • 4 credits may be completed in the major

Writing in the Major (2-4 credits)

  • Varies by major
  • Double majors must complete the requirement in both major departments

Miscellaneous

  • Special topics courses can be used to fulfill a Gen Ed requirement by petition (Form is available on the Dean’s Office website)
  • Writing in the major and Capstone courses must be taken at Drew
