Art Exhibit: George Awde, “Quiet Crossings”
Curator: Rebecca Soderholm
Dorothy Young Center for the Arts | Korn Gallery

An American-born artist of Lebanese descent, George Awde’s photographs, taken in Beirut and northeastern Syria, are an intimate portrayal of middle-eastern masculinity. In contrast to the narrative of war, violence and politics that has defined western perceptions of men in this region, Awde’s work explores expressions of love within communities of men who cross both cultural and national boundaries in order to create authentic lives in uncertain times.

George Awde received his BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art in 2004 and his MFA in Photography from Yale University School of Art in 2009. His work is exhibited internationally. Awde works as a photographer and an educator in the U.S. and Beirut, Lebanon.
