SEPTEMBER 2015 – PRESENT

09/20/2015               Motor Vehicle Stop

On this date a call came into HQ regarding a strong odor of gasoline on campus in the area of Tolley-Brown Circle.  Officers responding to this area confirmed the odor.  While investigating, Ofc O’Donnell realized the odor was coming from a vehicle leaking gasoline as it drove through campus.  A motor vehicle stop was conducted and the owner was advised that they would not be allowed to drive the vehicle on campus with a gas leak.  The vehicle was then removed from campus.

09/20/2015              Theft

Sergeant Simmons took a report from a student claiming prescription medication was stolen out of his room during a party the previous night.  The student stated he didn’t know who stole the medication, however, he did not lock his room and was not present during the large party.  The matter is currently under investigation.

09/20/2015               Suspicious Circumstances

While on patrol on King’s Road in Madison Borough, Sergeant Traynor witnessed a vehicle driving in the opposite direction at a high rate of speed with a shredded front tire on its rim.  Sparks were shooting off the rim.  Sgt Traynor followed this vehicle and called it into Madison Police since it was in their jurisdiction.  Once the vehicle reached Morris Township, Sgt Traynor broke off.  A short time later the same vehicle entered campus.  It was stopped by Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Donnell and Ofc Herring in the Glenwild Lot.  The driver, a student, was questioned.  An incident report was written and filed.

09/20/2015               Trespassing

Officer O’Donnell, Officer Herring, and Sergeant Traynor were notified a residential desk attendant that a male on the campus Restricted/Trespassing list was signed in as a guest of a student in McLendon Hall.  Officers responded to McLendon Hall where they located this individual.  This male was detained and removed from campus.

09/20/2015               Liquor Law Violation

Officers acting on a tip after three alcohol/medical transports, raided a party in McClintock Hall.  Evidence of binge drinking was present, including a keg, funnel, a cooler of Everclear-based “jungle juice” and hundreds of beer cans.  Underage partygoers were documented while the residents of the room were issued citations for Provided Alcohol to Underage Persons, Underage Possession of Alcohol, Prohibited Drinking Games, Possession of a Keg, and Providing False Information to Officers.  The matter has been referred to the campus judicial system.

09/20/2015               Alcohol/Medical – Multiple

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring responded to three underage alcohol/medical calls that required ambulance transport and hospitalization during this evening.  While speaking with one of the underage patients, Sgt Traynor received a tip that large quantities of alcohol in the form of “jungle juice” and a keg was being served to underage persons at a party in McClintock Hall, and that many people were becoming dangerously intoxicated.

09/19/2015               Suspicious Persons

Officers O’Donnell and Herring, while on patrol, noticed two males in the Tolley woods at night, using their cell phones for illumination.  When they attempted to make contact with these males, they fled on foot into the woods.  O’Donnell and Herring were able to apprehend the suspects who were found to be a student and guest.  They had no explanation for their behavior.   An incident report was filed for adjudication.

09/19/2015               Vehicle Fire

Sergeant Simmons responded to the Hoyt Parking Lot for a report of a motor vehicle with smoke billowing out of it.  Upon arrival she found a BMW parked in the lot that was smoking.  Nobody was present.  Madison Fire and Police Departments then arrived on scene to assist.  The fire was extinguished the vehicle was traced back to a Morristown resident.  The resident was contacted and stated that he may have accidentally dropped a lit cigarette inside the car while trying to throw it out the window.

09/19/2015               Medical Transport

Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Donnell, and Ofc Herring were dispatched to the Copper Beech condominiums on Loantaka Way in Madison for a report of a female experiencing extreme abdominal pain and trouble breathing.   Officers evaluated the patient and Madison Ambulance Squad transported her to the hospital for medical care.

09/19/2015               Noise Complaint

Sergeant Traynor responded to the rear of Foster Hall for a report of a car alarm going off for hours throughout the night.  Traynor located the vehicle and was able to make contact with its owner.  The alarm appeared to be malfunctioning and the owner could not get it to stop sounding, so the vehicle was moved to an unoccupied area of campus for the night.

09/19/2015               Alcohol/Medical Transport

Officers responded to Tolley Hall for a report of a highly intoxicated female who had fallen out of a bed and hit her head on the ground.  The responding officers determined that the student was in need of medical care at a hospital.  She was transported by Madison EMS Squad to Morristown Medical Center for evaluation.

09/19/2015               Alcohol/Medical Transports – Multiple

Sergeant Traynor, Officer Herring, and Officer O’Donnell responded to Tolley Hall for a report of a highly intoxicated underage student, unconscious in a bed.  When the officers arrived on scene they found that this individual’s roommate was also extremely intoxicated.  Two ambulances had to be called and both roommates were transported to the hospital for treatment.

09/18/2015               Motor Vehicle Stop

Officer O’Donnell was on patrol when he witnessed a pizza delivery vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed fail to stop at the Sycamore Intersection.  Realizing this vehicle’s driver has had multiple previous offenses on campus, a motor vehicle stop was conducted.  The driver was issued a summons for Failure To Stop and was warned that further violations could result in losing driving privileges on campus.

09/18/2015               Noise Complaint

Sergeant O’Keefe and Officer Jimenez responded to Hoyt Hall on a complaint of yelling coming from a residence after 2:00 AM.  Contact was made with the residents.  After it was determined that there were no problems, the residents were given a warning and agreed to keep the noise down.

09/18/2015               Fire Call

Sergeant O’Keefe was dispatched to the McLendon lawn for a reported smoke condition on this date.  Upon arrival he found students sitting around the fire pit that was left in the area from an earlier BBQ event.  The students stated that they believed they could reignite the fire.  The fire was then put out with a fire extinguisher.

09/17/2015               Other Alarm

Officers Bozo was dispatched to Wendel Hall for a report of an unknown alarm going off in a residence.  Upon arrival he determined it was due to a faulty heat detector in the fire alarm system.  Maintenance was called in to replace the detector.

09/16/2015               Fire Call

Sergeant Mitchell was dispatched to the Learning Center for a report of a cigarette disposal unit that was on fire.  Upon arrival he found that a staff member had already put it out with a fire extinguisher.  The cause of the fire was determined to be from someone stuffing it with paper cups, which ignited when cigarettes were disposed of in the unit.

09/16/2015               Solicitation / Trespassing

Lt LaManna and Chief Lucid were contacted by the Student Activities Office regarding flyers that were being placed around campus by an unknown company.  An investigation was conducted and it was determined that the flyers were placed by a dubious corporation attempting to solicit students into a pyramid scheme.  Representatives the company were later located on campus and removed with a trespass warning.

09/15/2015               Assist Outside Agency

Officers O’Donnell and Herring were requested to assist Madison Police units with regard to a suspicious illegally vehicle parked in the Grace Church Lot, below Drew’s Sitterly Parking Lot.  After running the plate, officers found that the vehicle belonged to a Drew student.  Contact was made with the student who was advised to remove his vehicle from the lot.

09/15/2015               Drug Law

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring were dispatched to McClintock Hall on a report by RA staff of a strong odor of burning marijuana.  Officers arrived on scene and quickly located the room from where the odor was emanating.  Contact was made with two residents who were initially uncooperative.  During the investigation, drug paraphernalia and marijuana were recovered.  The students were cited for possession of CDS, possession of paraphernalia, and smoking indoors.

09/15/2015               Abandoned 9-1-1

Officer Herring responded to the Simon Forum for a reported 9-1-1 hangup from the elevator.  Ofc Herring searched the area but found nobody present.  A callback was not possible since the elevator’s emergency phone was used to make the call.  Ofc Herring then cleared the scene.

09/15/2015               Medical Transport

Officer Palmer was dispatched to the Rose Library for a medical emergency called in by a student experiencing knee pain.  Ofc Palmer evaluated the patient and determined the transportation to the hospital was necessary.  The patient was moved to Department of Public Safety headquarters, where he awaited the ambulance. He was then transported to Morristown Medical Center.

09/14/2015               Fire Alarm

Officers O’Donnell and Herring responded to Wendel Hall for an activated fire alarm.  The officers located the source of the alarm, which was burned food.  The resident was spoken to and the system was reset without incident.

09/14/2015               Prohibited Animals

Officers responded to McClintock Hall for a report of a dog inside a residence.  Since non-service dogs are not permitted in Drew housing, contact was made with the residents of the suite.  They admitted that a dog was in the room, but it was no longer present.  Officers issued a warning and cleared the scene.

09/13/2015               Drug Law

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, Officer Jimenez, and Officer Herring responded to Hurst Hall to investigate a report of “possible cocaine use” at a large party.  After interviewing residents, Officers found prescription drug capsules in plain view with their contents removed.  An investigation led to a suspect who admitted to possession and use of these drugs.  The suspect was charged through the university with Possession of Certain Prescription Drugs and various other violations.  A report was written and the matter was referred for adjudication.

09/13/2015               Tampering With Fire Equipment / Assault

On this date at approximately 1:05AM, officers responded to a reported smoke condition in the McClintock building.  Upon arrival, they determined it was actually “drychem” from an illegally discharged fire extinguisher.  Officers on scene pulled the fire alarm to evacuate the building due to the aerosolized particles making it hard to breathe in the poorly ventilated hallway.  While awaiting Madison Fire Department, officers were approached by students who claimed they were sprayed with the extinguishers and assaulted by two unknown males.  An extensive investigation was conducted, which included surveillance footage and interviewing known acquaintances.  Later in the night, the two suspects, both non-students, turned themselves into campus authorities.  They were arrested and charged with multiple violations.  A court appearance is pending.

09/13/2015               Alcohol/Medical

Sgt Traynor, Ofc Palmer, Ofc O’Donnell, and Ofc Jimenez were dispatched to the rear of McClintock Hall for a report of a severely intoxicated male unconscious on the pavement.  Officers arrived on scene, having just left another Alcohol/Medical call in McLendon, and found the male student in extremely poor condition, unconscious and unresponsive.  Madison EMS was called in and transported the student to the hospital.

09/12/2015               Alcohol Medical / Disorderly

Sergeant Traynor was approached on this date by an RA claiming that there was a highly intoxicated male sitting at a picnic table outside Tolley Hall that refused to show ID and was passing out.  Traynor responded and located the individual.  It was quickly determined that the individual was lying about his age and was in need of immediately medical care.  The student was issued multiple citations and transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.

09/12/2015               Drug Law

While on patrol, Sergeant Traynor and Officer Jimenez noticed suspicious activity in a vehicle in the Glenwild Lot late at night.  They investigated further and found a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.  After being joined by Officers Dougherty and Herring, contact was made with the occupants and a search of the vehicle was conducted.  Marijuana and parphernalia were confiscated and the owner of the vehicle was charged with multiple violations.  The matter has been referred for judicial sanctions.

09/11/2015               Drug Law

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring were dispatched to Tolley Hall for a report of an odor of marijuana.  The officers investigated and located the suspects in a residence.  Contact was made and CDS was turned over upon questioning.  The resident was cited for possession of marijuana under 50 grams.  Three non-students were issued Trespass Orders and removed from campus.

09/11/2015               Smoking Indoors

Officers O’Donnell and Herring were dispatched to Riker Hall for a report of an odor of cigarettes in the building.  The officers searched and were able to locate the students responsible for smoking in their rooms, which is against New Jersey state law.  The students were cited and referred for judicial sanctions.

09/11/2015               Fire Call

Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Donnell, and Ofc Herring responded to Hoyt Hall for a reported “smell of something burning.”  Officers went room-to-room on the first floor searching for the source of the odor, eventually finding a garbage can on fire just outside the rear entrance.  The fire was put down with an extinguisher and an investigation by officers determined it was started by a negligently discarded cigarette.

09/10/2015               Property Damage

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring were dispatched to Asbury Hall on a report of a major water leak on the second and third floors.  Once on scene, officers found water pouring through the ceiling on the second floor and going down the walls.  On the third floor officers found a flooding condition caused by an overflowing toilet.  Emergency Maintenance was called in and found that silt had clogged the building’s plumbing.  The water was cleaned up and the issue remedied by the Facilities Department.

09/10/2015               Suspicious Circumstances

Officers were dispatched to Hoyt Hall for a report of a female screaming.  After a thorough investigation and interviewing witnesses, they were unable to substantiate the complaint.  Officers remained on scene and walked the area but did not hear anything abnormal.

09/09/2015               Medical Transport

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring responded to the Tilghman Field on for a medical emergency after a student was injured during sports practice. The officers evaluated the student and determined that the student’s ankle may be broken.  The student was then transported via ambulance to Morristown Medical Center.

09/09/2015               Motor Vehicle Hit & Run

Sgt Mitchell responded to the Ehinger Center Lot for a reported Hit & Run accident reported by a professor.  The faculty member stated that her vehicle’s bumper was hit while parked in the lot at some point two days earlier.  The investigation is still open.

09/09/2015               Suspicious Person

Lieutenant LaManna responded to the area of the Zuck Arboretum after a concerned citizen called in a complaint of a suspicious male yelling to himself.  Lt LaManna was able to locate the male and found that he was a staff member engaged in a phone conversation.  The staff member was released and a report was filed.

09/08/2015               General Police

Sgt O’Keefe and Ofc Jimenez were dispatched to Riker Hall on a student complaint of an odor of marijuana.  Upon arrival, officers determined that the odor was not marijuana.  Officers sourced the odd smell to room’s ventilation system.  The unfounded complaint was turned over to the Facilities Department.

09/08/2015               Property Damage

Sergeant Mitchell responded to the Main Lot for a report of a vehicle with a shattered window.  The vehicle was parked near the Commons garbage compactor and the owner noticed the broken window after returning from class.  The matter is under investigation.

09/05/2015               Criminal Mischief

On this date Officer Palmer was dispatched to Tolley-Brown Lounge for a report of “burning pan on a stove.”  When she arrived on scene, she could detect a strong odor of burning plastic.  Ofc Palmer found an electric hot pot that she determined was intentionally placed on the stove’s burner, causing it to melt, nearly causing a fire.  Ofc Palmer conducted an investigation and identified the suspects who were Drew students.  They were cited for their actions.

09/05/2015               Medical Transport

Sergeant Simmons was dispatched to the Simon Forum for a report of an unconscious female.  Upon arrival, Sgt Simmons evaluated the patient, who had since regained consciousness.  It was determined that the patient was in need of immediate transport to the hospital.  Madison EMS transported the patient for further treatment.

09/05/2015               Criminal Mischief

Officer Palmer was alerted on this date to continued tampering with the locking mechanism on the rear of McClintock Hall in an effort to disable it.  Using surveillance footage, Palmer was able to identify a suspect.  The suspect was charged through the University with Criminal Mischief and a Disorderly Persons offense.

NOTE:  Tampering with a building locking mechanism is not only illegal, but puts the entire community in danger.  Anyone found tampering with locks will be charged to the fullest extent.

09/05/2015              Alcohol/Medical

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring responded to Foster Hall for a reported Medical/Alcohol.  After examining the patient, they determined that further evaluation was necessary.  Madison Volunteer Ambulance Squad was called and the patient ultimately signed an RMA (Refusal of Medical Assistance) form.

09/04/2015               Stolen Motor Vehicle

Officer Palmer was dispatched to the Glenwild Lot for a report of a stolen Ford Explorer.  During the course of her investigation, she was able to determine that the vehicle was accidentally taken by someone coming to campus to pick up a substantially similar vehicle.  The “stolen” vehicle was returned to campus and no charges have been filed.  The owner of the missing vehicle had left his keys inside the car with the doors unlocked.

09/02/2015               Theft

Sgt Mitchell responded to the Pepin Svs Center Mailroom on a report of theft.  The complainant stated that a pile of shirts had been stolen from the mailroom when he left the area.  The theft is under investigation.

09/02/2015               Drug Law

Sergeant Traynor, Officer O’Donnell, and Officer Herring responded to McClintock on a reported odor of marijuana.  During the course of their investigation multiple suspects were identified.  The suspects were found in possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and an LSD tab.  They were also in possession of alcohol underage.  They are being charged through the university.

02/16/2015               Trespassing

Officers O’Donnell and Herbert were dispatched to the Commons for a report of a trespasser in the building.  By the time they arrived, the individual was gone.  Statements were taken from a witness and an investigation allowed the officers to make contact with the individual.  The case is pending.

02/16/2015               Medical Transport

Officers O’Donnell and Herbert responded to Brothers College for a report of a student who had fallen down the stairs.  Once on scene, it was found that a railing had become dislodged from the wall, causing the individual to fall.  An ambulance was dispatched and the patient was taken to the hospital.

02/16/2015               Trespassing

Officers O’Donnell and Herbert were dispatched to the Commons for a report of a trespasser in the building.  By the time they arrived, the individual was gone.  Statements were taken from a witness and an investigation allowed the officers to make contact with the individual.  The case is pending.

02/16/2015               Motor Vehicle Collision

Officers O’Donnell and Herbert were dispatched along with Madison Police to the Copper Beech condominium complex on Loantaka Way for a reported MV Accident.  Once on scene it was found that a vehicle backed into another, causing a moderate amount of damage.  There were no injuries.  A report was taken at the scene.

02/15/2015               MV Stop / Drug Law

Officers O’Keefe and Palmer conducted a motor vehicle stop on a suspicious vehicle in the Dorothy Young Lot after it was called in by Dispatcher Dougherty.  During the stop, it became apparent that the suspects, all non-students, were smoking marijuana in the vehicle. A search was conducted, which yielded more marijuana.  The driver was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana Under 50 grams.  The passengers were removed from campus.

02/14/2015               Alcohol/Medical Transport

Sgt Goldate, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Palmer responded to Welch 1st Floor for a report of an intoxicated student vomiting.  Once on scene, the student began vomiting again and suffered a panic attack.  They were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

02/12/2015               Vehicle Immobilzer Destroyed

Sgt Traynor and Ofc Fierro were dispatched to the Glenwild Lot to remove a “boot” from an offender’s vehicle.  Once on scene, it became apparent that the offender attempted to drive with the boot affixed to their car, despite a posted warning that it may cause severe damage to his vehicle.  Officers found that the boot was destroyed and the suspect’s vehicle had damage to the fender.  Maintenance was called to help remove the boot from the car.  An accident report was taken and the suspect was charged for the cost of replacing the immobilization device.

02/12/2015               Suspicious Event

Lt LaManna and Ofc Herbert, with the assistance of Madison Police Department, responded to Brothers College Circle for a reported suspicious package left near the building.  The area was blocked off with traffic and pedestrians diverted to another area by the officers.  The package, a suitcase, was then examined and safely opened.  It was found to contain nothing more than discarded trash.  The suitcase was disposed of and the area was opened up again to vehicle and foot traffic.

02/12/2015               Vehicle Immobilzed

Officer Herbert was enforcing parking laws in the Main Lot when he found a vehicle with excessive unpaid violations.  The vehicle, belonging to a student, was booted so that corrective action could be taken.

02/12/2015               9-1-1 Hang Up

Sgt Simmons was dispatched to Hoyt 4th floor after a 9-1-1 Hang-Up was received by Dispatch from a cell phone.  The caller, a student, was located and stated that she accidentally dialed 9-1-1 and there were no issues.

02/12/2015               Burglar Alarm

Sgt Simmons was dispatched to an activated Burglar Alarm at the Archives.  After a brief investigation, it was determined to have been set off in error by the cleaning staff.

02/11/2015               MV Stop / Vehicle Ran Gatehouse

Dispatcher Herring was manning the University Gatehouse when a vehicle drove by at a high rate of speed without stopping.  Officers were dispatched to search for the vehicle, which was located in the Main Lot.  Sgt Traynor conducted a MV Stop and found that the driver was a staff member.  The staff member was cited for Failure To Stop.

02/11/2015              Assault / Violation of No Contact Order

Sgt Traynor was dispatched to take a report of a student who was assaulted after another student violated a no-contact order.  After an investigation, the offender was located later that evening.  The victim did not wish to press charges, however the investigation is on-going.  The matter has been referred to residence life for adjudication.

02/11/2015               Drug Law

Officers Herbert and Fierro responded to a report of an odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle behind the Ehinger Center.  An investigation was conducted and suspects were identified.  A report was sent to the Dean’s office.

02/11/2015              Medical Transport

Sgt Simmons and Ofc Herbert were dispatched to a medical in Riker Hall.  The caller was provided with medical care and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.  The patient was then transported to the hospital for evaluation.

02/10/2015                Harassment

Officer Doyle responded to Headquarters to take a report of harassment and an ongoing dispute between various individuals.  An investigation is underway to determine what action will be necessary.  An incident report was filed.

02/10/2015                Animal Control

A Madison resident flagged down Officer O’Keefe as he was on patrol and advised him that her dog, a friendly pitbull named Princess, had gotten away from her.  Ofc O’Keefe began searching the campus for Princess with no luck.  He then responded to the woman’s residence and found the dog sitting at its own front door.  The woman arrived home moments later and was reunited with her four-legged friend.

02/08/2015                Unknown Alarm

Ofc Herbert was dispatched to the Forum after a call by a staff member that there was an alarm sounding.  Upon arrival, the officer could not find any alarm and the call was deemed unfounded.

02/08/2015                Fire Alarm / Flooding

On the morning of 2/8, Dispatch received a call regarding a massive amount of water flooding into the Hall of Science. Simultaneously, a call came in regarding a “waterflow alarm” from the fire suppression system.  Sgt Simmons responded and immediately requested facilities response while still en route.  A broken water pipe from the sprinkler system appeared to have caused the flooding issue, which was shut off quickly, but not before the Hall of Science’s new psychology wing sustained a lot of damage.  An investigation into the reason for the broken pipe is underway.

02/08/2015                Medical

Sgt Traynor and Ofc O’Keefe responded to Tolley Hall for a report of an intoxicated student vomiting.  Responding officers evaluated the patient and found that there was no sign of intoxication.  The patient was simply not feeling well.  The patient signed a Refusal of Medical Attention form.

02/08/2015                Criminal Mischief / Tampering With Fire Equipment

Sgt Traynor and Ofc O’Keefe responded to Foster Hall for a report of vandalism.  Upon investigating, they found that someone had smashed the fire pull-station cover in the hallway.  Emergency Maintenance was dispatched to the scene but was unable to fix the cover.  The damage was documented.  Anyone with information about possible suspects is encouraged to come forward.

02/08/2015                Vandalism 

Ofc Fierro responded to McClintock Hall for a report that an individual had smashed a ceiling light.  Ofc Fierro confirmed the report and also found shards of glass on the ground.   Emergency Maintenance was dispatched to clean the shards and fix the broken ceiling light.  An incident report was filed.

02/08/2015                Disorderly Person / Liquor Law

Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Fierro responded to McLendon Hall for a report of a disorderly person refusing to show ID to a Resident Assistant.  The suspect left before officers arrived but the RA was able to identify them.  Later in the evening, officers were again called out for the same individual.  A report was filed and the suspect was cited for disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.

02/07/2015                Motor Vehicle Collision – Hit & Run 

Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Fierro were dispatched to the Glenwild Lot for a reported Hit & Run motor vehicle accident.  The complainant stated that someone had backed into her car, damaging her bumper, and drove away.  An investigation  was able to positively identify the suspect who left the scene of the accident.  The matter was ultimately turned over to Madison Police Department, however, an on-campus judicial complaint was also filed.

02/07/2015                Noise Complaint

Sgt Traynor and Ofc Fierro were dispatched to Tipple Hall on a Noise Complaint.  After a short investigation, the source of the noise was identified and contact was made with the residents responsible.  They complied with officers’ requests and there were no additional issues.

02/07/2015                Abandoned 9-1-1

Sgt Simmons was dispatched to the Simon Forum elevator for a report of an abandoned 9-1-1 call.  Simmons arrived and searched the area with negative results.  An investigation found that the elevator’s emergency phone was malfunctioning.

02/07/2015                Criminal Mischief

At 7:50 AM, Ofc O’Donnell responded to the Dorothy Young Arts Center for a report of criminal mischief, after it was discovered that an unknown party entered the boiler room and turned on a valve, causing water damage and damaging expensive equipment.  The incident is currently under investigation.

Officers responded to Hurst Hall for a report of a heated verbal dispute taking place.  Once on scene, officers went to the reported location of the argument, but found nobody engaged in a dispute of any kind.  The individuals present were interviewed and the call was determined to be unfounded.

Lt LaManna and Ofc O’Keefe were approached at the Ehinger Center regarding a student who had fallen and hurt her knee.  After a medical evaluation, officers dressed the patient’s abrasion with bandages.

02/07/2015                Suspicious Circumstances

While on patrol, Officer Fierro  noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the darkness outside the Glenwild Gate.  Sgt Traynor responded to assist and contact was made with the occupant of the vehicle.  It was determined to be an ex-student who was picking up a current student.  After IDs were recorded and all was found to be in order, the vehicle was sent on its way.

02/06/2015                Medical Transport

Sgt Goldate, Ofc Palmer, and Ofc O’Keefe responded to Brown Hall for a  report of a student experiencing abdominal pain.  The patient was evaluated and it was determined that they should go to the hospital for further treatment.  Madison EMS arrived and took over patient care.  The student was then transported to the hospital.

02/06/2015                Motor Vehicle Complaint

Sgt Simmons responded to the Main Lot for a report of a black Ford Mustang parked in the roadway, blocking traffic.  It was determined that the Mustang somehow rolled out of its parking space and into the road.  With the help of a Boiler Operator, the vehicle was pushed back into a parking space and out of the roadway.

Ofc Palmer responded to Tipple Hall for a report of a Carbon Monoxide Alarm.   The apartment was checked by Ofc Palmer and Emergency Maintenance for any presence of Carbon Monoxide.  There was no CO present and the alarm was found to be a malfunction.

Sgt Goldate, Ofc Palmer, and Ofc O’Keefe responded to a student complaint of harassment of a female student by a male contractor on campus.  After an investigation, the suspect was identified.  An incident report detailing the case was filed with action forthcoming.

Officer Bozo responded to Loantaka Way in Madison for a report of vandalism at the Drew-owned Copper Beech condominium complex.  Names were found scrawled into freshly laid cement walkways in the area.  An investigation is underway.

02/03/2015                Abandoned 9-1-1

Sgt Simmons and Ofc Herbert were dispatched to a 9-1-1 call coming from the Simon Forum weight room.  Dispatch informed the officers that there was no answer on the other end of the call.  Upon arrival they found that someone had knocked the emergency 9-1-1 phone off the wall and left the scene.

Sgt Simmons responded to the Methodist Archives for an activated burglar alarm.  Upon arrival, the Sergeant searched the building and found that custodians had set off the burglar alarm in error and neglected to notify anyone.  The alarm was reset and a report was filed.

Units responded to the Rose Memorial Library for two activated burglar alarms on 2/2/15.  Both alarms were found to have been activated by Aramark/Facilities personnel entering the building.

While in the Tolley-Brown Circle, Sgt Goldate witnessed a male who had been barred from campus walking into a building.  He made contact with this individual who advised that he believed his trespass order had been rescinded, but he hadn’t yet notified the Department of Public Safety.  After an investigation, it was determined this individual was no longer barred from campus and he was allowed to continue to his destination.

Sgt Mitchell responded to Hoyt Hall on a reported odor of  marijuana, called in by a staff member.  Upon arrival, Sgt Mitchell checked the entire area with negative results.  The report remains unfounded.

Sgt Simmons was dispatched to Welch Hall for a report that someone was using marijuana near the Resident Director’s apartment.  A short investigation led Simmons to a student’s room.  Contact was made with the suspect and a search was conducted, yielding an amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.  The suspect was cited with Possession of Marijuana Under 50g, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

01/28/2015                Simple Assault

Sgt Traynor, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Fierro responded to Brown Hall for a report of an assault.  On arrival, parties were separated and interviewed.  It was determined that a roommate dispute led to an argument, and eventually, to an assault.  Neither individual wished to press charges, however No Contact Orders were filed and both parties were cited for adjudication through the University judicial process.

Sgt Simmons responded to an activated Burglar Alarm from the Korn Gallery in the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts.  Upon arrival Simmons found that the alarm had been set off in error by a DYCA staff member.  She then cleared the scene.

Sgt Goldate, Ofc Palmer, and Ofc Doyle were dispatched to Welch Hall on a complaint of harassment of a female student by a male student.  Statements were taken from all parties and an investigation is currently underway.

01/26/2015                Alcohol/Medical Transport & Disorderly Person

Sgt Goldate, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Palmer were dispatched to Tolley Hall for a report of a strange male attempting to gain access to a room that wasn’t his.  Upon arrival, they found that the suspect had urinated on the victim’s door and fled the scene.  An investigation yielded the suspect’s identity and officers responded to the suspect’s residence.  Once on scene, they found the suspect unresponsive and experiencing alcohol poisoning.  An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the suspect was taken to the hospital.  He was later cited for disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.

Officers Doyle and O’Keefe were flagged down in the Tolley-Brown Circle by a student who was concerned about her friend.  The officers went to McClintock, where they evaluated the friend and found that she was highly intoxicated and not in control of her motor functions.  Drew First Responders arrived to assist and take vitals.  The patient was then transported to Morristown Medical Center via ambulance.

Lt LaManna, and Officers Bozo and Doyle responded to Brown Hall for a report of a highly intoxicated student who was vomiting in the hallway.  Once on scene, the student was evaluated.  An ambulance was dispatched and the patient was transported to Morristown Medical Center for further evaluation.

Lt LaManna, Cpl Goldate, and Ofc Bozo responded to Haselton Hall for a report of a highly intoxicated student.  After a medical evaluation, it was apparent that the patient was intoxicated and in need of medical assistance.  An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and the patient was transported to Morristown Medical Center.

09/11/2013                CO Alarm

All Units were dispatched to Foster Hall for a report of multiple CO (Carbon Monoxide) alarm activations.  Drew officers  coordinated an evacuation of the building, ensuring the safety of all residents while simultaneously requesting Madison Fire and Emergency Maintenance on scene.  MFD arrived and confirmed an unsafe level of CO in the building.  Four students were then transported via ambulance to the hospital for precautionary evaluation. PSE&G response was called in to ensure the CO problem was fixed.  All students were shortly released from the hospital.

Sgt Simmons received a call from Wheaton College Dept of Public Safety regarding harassment between two Drew and Wheaton students.  Sgt Simmons made contact with the Drew student and issued a No Contact Order.  After conducting an investigation, an incident report was filed with the university for adjudication.

Lt LaManna and Cpl Goldate were dispatched to Hoyt Hall for a report of a strong odor of marijuana.  Upon arrival, they confirmed the odor.  Marijuana and paraphernalia were located and confiscated.  The resident of the room was issued citations for Possession of Marijuana (under 50 g) and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Officer responded to Brown Hall for a report that a male was trying to gain access through a locked door.  The caller, an RA, reported that the male began yelling in her face when confronted.  Officers were able to locate the suspect, identified as a student.  During questioning he was found to be intoxicated and in possession of an alcoholic beverage. Multiple summonses were issued for Disorderly Conduct and Underage Possession of Alcohol.

09/07/2013                Motor Vehicle Collision / Driving While Intoxicated

Lt LaManna, Cpl Goldate, and Ofc Riker responded to the Glenwild Lot for a report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run by a possibly-intoxicated driver.  Officers searched the campus and were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle in the Hoyt parking lot.  Officers then went to the suspect’s residence, where he admitted to the hit-and-run.  The suspect was issued multiple citations and was charged through the university as well as municipal court.

Lt LaManna, Cpl Goldate, Ofc O’Keefe, and Ofc Riker responded to the intersection of Madison Avenue and Lancaster Road for a report of a serious motor vehicle accident.  Once on scene, officers provided lifesaving medical assistance and controlled traffic.  Madison Police then arrived while Drew officers continued to provide vital aid and assistance throughout the response and subsequent investigation.

09/07/2013                Crowd Control / Trespassing

Officers Riker and O’Keefe were walking through McClintock Hall when they heard a resident telling a 30-40 people to leave their suite.  Officers responded and spoke with the resident, who stated that the large group entered without permission after a few people were invited over.  The officers were then able to clear the room.  The matter is under investigation.

09/05/2013                Trespassing / Disorderly Persons

Officers were dispatched to the area of Eberhardt for a report that a group of five (5) non-residents entered the building illegally and went through people’s bedrooms.  Once on scene, officers located the suspects, who ran from them.  Two of the suspects were apprehended  outside Eberhardt.  They were identified as former and current Drew University students.  Suspects were charged through the university judicial process with Trespassing and Disorderly Conduct (Eluding).

All units were dispatched to Hurst Hall for a report of a fight in progress.  Once on scene, two students made claims of assault and terroristic threats against one another.  Statements were taken and  No Contact Orders were put in place against the students involved.  After an investigation, a report was filed for adjudication.

Officers O’Donnell, Bozo, and Doyle were dispatched to McLendon Hall for a report of an electrical burning smell.  After an investigation, it was found that an air conditioning vent was blocked, causing the motor to burn out.  Emergency Maintenance was contacted to fix the problem.

Officers responded to Riker Hall for a report of a strong odor of marijuana.  When they arrived on scene, an odor could be detected, however, it was very faint.  After an investigation, officers cleared from the scene.

Ofc O’Donnell responded to Tilghman Field for a report of a student with a knee injury.  The student refused medical attention.  O’Donnell provided the student with an escort to their residence.

Officers O’Keefe and O’Donnell were patrolling in the area of Hoyt Hall, when they witnessed a male urinating on the front steps of the building.  He was approached and identified as a Drew student.  He was also found to be intoxicated.  The student was issued a summons for Disorderly Conduct (Urinating In Public) and released.

09/03/2013                Driving While Intoxicated

While on patrol, Officers O’Keefe and O’Donnell witnessed a vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.   They initiated a motor vehicle stop.  Cpl Goldate responded and interviewed the driver, observing a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.  Madison Police were called for assistance with a field sobriety test.  The driver, a non-student, was then arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

At 11:31pm, Corporal Goldate was patrolling in the area of the Tolley-Brown Circle when he witnessed a male urinating in the bushes.  During questioning, Goldate also found the male to be intoxicated.  The suspect was cited for Public Urination and Underage Consumption of Alcohol.

Officers O’Donnell, Doyle, and Bozo witnessed a suspicious male in the area of the Tolley woods at 9:30pm.  When they attempted to make contact, the suspect was able to elude capture, running into Brown Hall.  After observing surveillance cameras, a positive ID was made.  Officers went to the suspect’s residence and left a message with his roommate.  The suspect later turned himself in.  He was cited for Disorderly Conduct and Eluding, a Disorderly Persons offense.  He was then released.

A group of students who were approached by Officer Warbrick were cited for possession of CDS when it was found that they had been smoking marijuana.  An investigation by Lieutenant La Manna led to several other students found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.  The incident report was sent to the Dean’s office.

Officers responded to Hoyt when a complaint was received about a large, noisy party.  Once at the location, they found students dispersing and the officers spoke to the resident where the party had been held.  The resident was cited for liquor law violations – this information was forwarded to the Dean’s Office.

A reported act of vandalism was investigated and a student was identified as the individual who kicked and shattered a glass door at Foster.   A report and estimated cost of repairs was sent to the Dean’s Office.

A report was received regarding a student who was intoxicated and vomiting in the restroom.  Officers responded and evaluated the student.  It was determined that he could be left in care of a friend after they were made aware to call Public Safety if the student’s condition worsened.  A report was generated for the Dean.

A student who appeared to be intoxicated was stopped and questioned when he was observed walking in the roadway.  After a brief interview, the intoxicated student was found to be under the legal drinking age of 21.  After securing the student’s information, he was released into the care of a friend.  A report was sent to the Dean’s Office.

Lieutenant La Manna investigated an activated fire alarm and found the cause of the alarm was due to burning incense and smoking marijuana.  The residents of the room were cited and a report was sent to Dean Merckx.

Officers responded to McClintock on a report of underage drinking.  A large number of students, who had gathered for a party, were dispersed and the residents were issued citations for providing alcohol to minors and for underage drinking.  The report was sent to the Dean’s Office.

A scuffle among a group of individuals was broken up by Officers Warbrick and Goldate.  After it was determined that there were no injuries, a number of guests were escorted off campus and the students were dispersed.

While on patrol, Officer Warbrick encountered a heated argument among several students.  After speaking to the individuals, the parties agreed to part ways and have no contact with each other for the remainder of the night.

Officers responded to a report of an odor of marijuana in McLendon.  Once on scene, they were able to determine the source of the odor and they attempted to make contact with the residents.  Unable to do so, they recorded their findings and forwarded the information to the Dean’s office.

While on patrol, Officer Flora was dispatched to Tolley for an odor of marijuana.  The source was located and a student was cited for drug and paraphernalia possession.  A report was sent to the Dean.

Lieutenant Politz was dispatched to the front of Holloway for a report of an intoxicated individual, who may require medical attention.  Upon his arrival he met with the student and evaluated her condition.  He determined that she was able to remain with her friend, who would care for her.  The incident report was sent to the Dean.

Sergeant Mitchell and Corporal Traynor responded to Tilghman House to handle a disorderly person.  Once on scene they interviewed those involved and ordered several individuals to leave the area.

While on patrol, Officer Goldate recognized a non-Drew individual who had been issued a trespass notice last semester.  The individual was detained and taken to HQ where Madison Police were called to respond.  MPD took the individual into custody for trespassing.

While on patrol, Officers Goldate and Warbrick were flagged down by a student’s guest.  The guest reported that his vehicle had been broken into overnight – a number of valuables were stolen out of the vehicle.  Madison Police were called to respond to the scene to take a report.

A student approached officers on patrol were advised that a non-Drew individual who had assaulted him last semester was currently on campus.  After getting a description, the officers located the individual and questioned him.  The individual was uncooperative and became disorderly.  He was detained and taken to HQ where Madison Police were asked to respond.  The individual was taken into custody by MPD for trespassing.

Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated individual in the rear of McClintock.  Once on scene, Lieutenant La Manna questioned the individual, who was not a Drew student and did not have a host.  The individual was transported to HQ where a trespass warning was issued.  A call was made to have the individual picked up by a family member.

A student was observed stumbling in the Tolley Brown Circle while Officer Warbrick was on patrol in the area.  After making contact, it was determined that the student was intoxicated, but coherent.  The student was permitted to return to her residence after being cited for underage consumption of alcohol A report was sent to the Dean.

Public Safety received a report that a student had been assaulted.  Officers Warbrick and Goldate responded to the scene for an investigation.  The victim was not able to identify the individuals who assaulted him; however, there is an on-going investigation at this time.

A staff member reported his vehicle has been damaged in a “hit and run” accident while parked behind the Forum.  Corporal Traynor responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.   The victim was able to locate the vehicle that caused the damage and Corporal Traynor was able to identify the owner.  Both parties exchanged information and the victim declined to contact the police.

While on patrol, Officer Warbrick observed an individual who appeared visibly intoxicated.  After questioning the individual, it was determined that he could remain under the watch of a friend for the remainder of the night.  Both parties were escorted back to the residence where they were instructed to remain for the rest of the night.  A report was sent to the Dean.

Officer Goldate initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing the suspicious vehicle driving on campus.  It was found that the non-Drew driver did not have a driver’s license.  A family member was called to come and pick up the individual from HQ.

After receiving a report that there was an odor of marijuana, Officer Warbrick, Lieutenant La Manna and Officer Goldate responded to the scene to investigate.   Several students, who had been smoking marijuana, were found. The CDS and paraphernalia were confiscated and a report was written for the Dean’s office.

On Saturday morning, Officer Warbrick reported a number of vandalism incidents on campus that had most likely occurred during the previous overnight.  These cases were documented and work orders were placed with the Facilities Department.

Sergeant Simmons and the Facilities responded to the Glenwild area of the campus when it was reported that a tree had fallen, due to the high winds.  The road was blocked temporarily while electrical wires were repaired and debris was cleaned up.

Officer Flora and the Madison Fire Department responded to Riker and Baldwin Halls for activated fire alarms.  Once on scene, it was determined that fire extinguishers had been set off in both buildings, minutes apart.  An investigation is being conducted at this time.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Public Safety.

While patrolling in the area of the Suites, Officer Templeton made contact with a student who was carrying a backpack full of alcohol.  Once it was determined that the student was underage, the alcohol was confiscated.  A report was sent to the Dean’s Office.

Two individuals, who were walking outside the Suites, were stopped because they were carrying cups of alcohol.   Lieutenant La Manna and Officer Templeton then responded to a party where the underage individuals had been served the alcohol.  The party was shut down and the residents were issued citations.  A report was filed and forwarded to the Dean.
