Dr. Pamela J. Gunter-Smith
Dr. Gunter-Smith comes to Drew after a distinguished career at Spelman College. Her previous appointments include the Porter professorship of physiology and department chair, associate provost for science and mathematics, and program director for the school’s Center for Biomedical and Behavioral Research. From 1993-2003, Gunter-Smith was program director of Spelman’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Biomedical Program where she played an integral role in the development of undergraduate science curricula.
Prior to Spelman, Dr. Gunter-Smith spent ten years at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. She holds a BS in Biology from Spelman and a PhD in Physiology from Emory, and did her postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
