Mentor Recognition Award Nomination

Your learning at Drew has been built upon the instruction you received in the K-12 grades.  Key teachers in the schools typically made a huge difference in our lives.  A few certainly did in mine.

As I look ahead to my third Commencement as president of Drew, I am once again excited about offering you the opportunity to do something many never take the time to do – thank a mentor who made a difference in your life.  At this time of preparation for future endeavors, I hope you will take some time to look back and to thank someone who was involved in making your success at Drew possible.

Fifteen years ago, Drew began a tradition of asking graduating seniors to think for a moment about the teachers they encountered in K-12 and to consider nominating one of those special people for the President’s Mentor Recognition Award.  This award will be presented to the chosen educator at Commencement on May 16, 2009.  The university will provide transportation and lodging for that person and recognize his or her work at a special moment during Commencement.  I will also send all nominees a letter of congratulation.

Nominations are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, May 2nd.  A committee comprised of faculty, Dean Levin, and a representative of the President’s Office will determine the Mentor Recognition Award winner.  If your mentor is selected, you will have the option of presenting the award personally at the podium at Commencement.

Be sure to include your name and phone number so that we can reach you and locate the winning educator in time for the ceremony.
